PVD is a modern technique for applying a (coloured) coating to a tap. A liquid metal is evaporated in a vacuum and deposited on the tap, this vapour changes from a liquid form to a solid form in contact with the tap, creating a wafer-thin layer on the tap.

PVD taps are more resistant to cleaning agents, corrosion and rust formation. However, we advise against using caustic agents when cleaning these taps.
